It is a prerequisite of all apprenticeship programmes that all learners embarking on an apprenticeship are required to achieve a Functional Skills qualification if they do not already have a GCSE pass at grades 9-4 (A*-C) in English and maths.
This can be daunting to potential learners, but with the dedicated support of our Functional Skills coaches to guide them through the programme, we will support them fully in achieving these qualifications.
We begin by assessing the maths and English capability of our learners before moving on to help them develop to achieve the required level of attainment to support their learning.
Using an online tool that assesses competence and highlights areas for improvement we give learners control of their own linguistic and mathematical development.
Our support software generates targeted learning plans and practice exercises designed to grow and deepen understanding of and the practical use of English and maths through repeated and learner-specific training which can be completed using mobile phones and tablets as well as laptops or PCs and may be completed in the learner’s own time.
For those learners who require additional support, we offer dedicated remote and in-person learning delivered by experts in the field of Functional Skills best practice.
Over the course of the apprenticeship programme, there are regular tests, mock examinations and further practice opportunities building toward a final exam in which learners will achieve a government-approved qualification equivalent to GCSE grade 4 or better in both English and maths.
These are important qualifications that enhance a learner’s self-confidence and will be of value both in the workplace and in the wider world.
Functional Skills are about enhanced literacy in the context of a managed and relevant overall learning experience which will increase a learner’s capability to contribute and add value to their employer, but also contribute to personal development and growth.
A Functional Skills qualification in English and maths is mandated for all learners who do not already have the equivalent GCSE qualifications at grades 9-4 (A*-C)
Our specialist Functional Skills coaches will guide learners through the programme offering additional assistance and support where required
